Banquet Hall
Choose it when you want the venue to handle the logistics. Air conditioning, power, parking, toilets and a kitchen already exist. For a winter wedding or a summer reception, that alone is worth the money.
Where it catches people out: many halls restrict or ban outside catering, or charge a royalty if you bring your own caterer. Ask this before you pay the advance, not after. Décor is also limited — most halls do not allow fixing anything to walls or ceilings, so your mandap and backdrops have to be free-standing.
Farmhouse
Choose it for large weddings, outdoor ceremonies and complete creative freedom. Nothing beats a mandap on open ground with fairy lights through the trees, and there is no house rule stopping you building it.
Where it catches people out: the venue rental is only the start. A farmhouse has no kitchen, often no usable power for a full event, and no lighting beyond the gate. Kitchen, generator, tents, furniture, lighting and staff all come in on a truck, which is real money on top of the rental. Budget for that, and for a weather plan. Home or Society Clubhouse
Choose it for functions under 100 guests — birthdays, baby showers, roka, griha pravesh, kitty parties, haldi. The saving is large, the atmosphere is warmer, and elderly relatives do not have to travel.
Where it catches people out: the clubhouse slot is shorter than people think, and it includes your setup and clearing time. Add the noise cut-off, the gate pass process for outside staff, and parking for guests, and a home function needs more planning than a banquet does, not less. Which Costs Least?
Home is cheapest, then banquet, then farmhouse — but only if you compare total cost rather than venue rental. A banquet’s plate price can hide what a farmhouse charges openly for tent, power and lighting. Work out the full number for each before deciding.

A banquet hall, in most cases. At 200 guests a farmhouse’s extra infrastructure cost is hard to justify unless you specifically want an outdoor wedding.
Can we have 300 guests at home?
Only with a lawn or a closed street, and it usually becomes harder than a venue. Above roughly 100 guests, a clubhouse lawn or banquet is the easier choice.
Is a farmhouse wedding risky in monsoon?
It needs a covered alternative planned in advance: tents with side walls, a covered dining area and a generator. With that in place it works; without it, one shower can end the evening.
