How We Plan These Days
Most of these functions begin early. The puja and the naming or mundan rituals come first, then prasad, then a proper lunch or dinner for the family and neighbours. We arrive early enough to be ready before the priest starts, keep the kitchen work away from the puja area, and serve as soon as the ritual ends, since children and elders should not be kept waiting.
Menus
- Satvik menus without onion and garlic where the family follows that
- Prasad and light refreshments during the puja: panjiri, halwa, fruit, tea and coffee
- Traditional bhojan: poori, sabzi, dal, paneer, chawal, raita, salad and papad
- Sweets: kheer, halwa, gulab jamun, rasmalai or a mithai counter
- A chaat or tikki counter where the family wants something lighter for guests who arrive later
Décor and Extras
Flower décor for the puja area and doorway, a small name backdrop for the naming ceremony, cushioned floor seating, and a simple photo corner. Add a bhajan or shehnai artist, and serving staff so the family is never running to the kitchen.
